is fn better than glock

Is Fn Better Than Glock - The Glock 19 Gen 5 has been my go-to pistol for the past year. I love this tool. I bought it from Vault Certified Used and it was literally brand new. I don't think he was fired.

I've run over 1,200 makes and qualities through it and it's exploded every time with zero jams or problems. This gun lives up to Glock's motto "Legendary Reliability". When you find a tool that is reliable, it gives you a lot of confidence.

I had no plans to change the G19. I was very happy about it. However, when a good friend of mine recently asked if I'd be willing to trade an item he didn't want or need for his FN 509 compact, my ears perked up.

Fn 509: The Gun That Could Actually Beat Glock?

I did some research on the 509C and it looks like a very nice little package. It's a bit smaller than my G19, which is what I'm going for. A friend of mine also said he put over 1,000 rounds through it with no problems. So I agreed to do business.

Now, worst case scenario, I'll shoot the FN for a while, and if I hate it, sell it and make some money. Best case scenario would make me want a better FN and then I'd have a new gun. So, I think it's a win-win for both parties.

I have to admit, I'm a big fan of FN. We visited their South Carolina factory in 2019 and were impressed with their attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality products. We interviewed several employees, many of them veterans, and they had great things to say about FN not only as a weapons manufacturer, but also as an employer.

I'm sure many of you know that FN makes almost legendary firearms for the US Army as well as other militaries around the world. Military firearms are manufactured for consumers on the same machines and to the same specifications.

When I got my hands on the new FN 509C, my first impression was that it was really good. The FN's grip texture is head and shoulders above the Glock. FN also has values. However, we should not forget that it is a bit more expensive than the Glock.

While I like that the 509C is slightly more compact than the G19, the FN is actually two ounces heavier. It weighs 25.5 ounces and is loaded with a 12-round magazine. The G19, on the other hand, weighs 23.63 ounces and has a 15-round magazine.

Both have all the features you would expect from a modern polymer semi-automatic assault pistol. They have dual controls under the barrel for lights and lasers. The only major difference I could find was that you physically switch the Glock mag release from one side to the other. But this is not a big problem.

Both have very similar triggers. Also, there are many aftermarket triggers. (Photo: Ben Phillippi/)

Both have very similar triggers. I actually like the Glock trigger. It is slightly more acidic than FN, which is slightly crushed before breaking. But there are plenty of aftermarket triggers if you want to change them.

Both have good views. G19 has a white dot behind you. The FN has a black back with a high visibility front. I like the Glock. However, that might be because I'm used to it. It should be noted that FN sights are metal, while Glock sights are plastic.

It should be noted that both are available with optically prepared plates that allow the attachment of the red dot.

Could This Gun Be Better Than A Glock For Defending Your Life?

The FN barrel is 3.7 inches long, while the Glock has a 4.02 inch barrel. (Photo: Ben Phillippi/)

Both are very similar in size, but the barrel and grip are different. The 509C has a 3.7-inch barrel, while the G19 has a 4.02-inch barrel. The grip on the FN is also noticeably shorter. This is the first of two features I really like about the FN over the Glock. Here's why.

The FN's grip length is "modular" and can be longer or shorter depending on the magazine inserted. (Photo: Ben Phillippi/)

The grip length of the G19 cannot be shortened with or without the magazine. But it fills my average hand very well.

Talon Grip For Fn 509 & 509 Tactical

The 509C grip length is modular, so it can be extended or shortened depending on the magazine you insert. No mag, I can only hold up three fingers. With the inclusion of 12 round magnets, the grip length is about an inch longer. I can barely hold up four fingers. I can comfortably fit all my fingers in the 15 round mag and it is very similar in length to the G19.

So you get the best of both worlds with the 509C. If you want to carry the 509C on your belt, it really shines. Since most of your print comes from the grip, it can be concealed with a 12 round magazine. A 15 round mag can be carried as a backup. The G19 does not have this modularity. I think FN is cool or something.

The second feature I really like about the FN is the grip angle. It is more vertical than the Glock. I never had a problem with the Glock, but when I held the FN, I immediately preferred the vertical grip.

I think this vertical grip angle makes me shoot the 509C better than the G19. I can only attribute this to the grip angle, FN probably makes the best barrels in the business.

And the most important part of the review for me is reliability. So far I've put over 400 rounds through the 509C and have had exactly zero breakdowns. If this gun can shoot 1,000 rounds without a jam, I would consider switching to the FN as my go-to gun.

You can't go wrong with a Glock 19 or FN 509. Both are excellent and reliable hands. (Photo: Ben Phillippi/)

Is Fn Better Than Glock

I will never sell my G19, even if the FN becomes my go to gun. Because I have personally proven myself to be 100% reliable. It is very important to me. Maybe another gun will come along and I'll slowly build up an amazingly reliable and fun shooting collection.
